Fabulous day! The weather was perfect last Friday for the Gay Pride and Two-Spirit Community Ceremony to unveil the first Rainbow Crosswalks (x2) in Whistler, BC! We were honored to witness the event and special Two-Spirit ceremony. We also got lots of great photos which we have included for you here to enjoy, so please do!

We must thank our good friend Dean Nelson, CEO and Executive Producer of Gay Whistler for inviting us to the ceremony and for being such a wonderful source of inspiration not only for us, but for many people across the globe. Dean was instrumental in the process of getting these Rainbow Crosswalks installed, so it was great to see it all come together last weekend, and to be there to share that with him.

We caught up with Dean after the event, and asked him to share his thoughts on how the day went from his perspective:

“What a spectacular day. It was very moving to see so many people out to participate and to bear witness to the Two Spirit blessing of the Rainbow Crosswalk. We really appreciated having the Mayor of Whistler, Nancy Wilhelm-Morden and our MLA Jordan Sturdy acknowledge the contributions the LGBT community have on Whistler and our partnership. I was particularly moved by Payton McPhee, the voice of Whistler youth the voice of tomorrow. I am sure many people in the audience could relate to his words and others becoming aware, perhaps for the first time, another perspective. A very proud moment for us all. It is my hope that the Rainbow Crosswalk will remind us of this incredible day of coming together. To remind us that each and every one of us is part of the Gender and Sexual Diversity spectrum and for us to be the very best we can be. To love, be compassionate and just be yourself.”
